Hong
Kong Special Administration Region (SAR) is situated in the southeast of China.
It borders Shenzhen in the north, is separated from Macau by the Pearl River in
the west and is only 130 kilometers away from Guangzhou in the northwest. Boasting
its geographic advantages, Hong Kong is a hub of the rapidly-growing economy in
East Asia. The city ranks with New York, London and Zurich as the world's four
financial centers. The "Pearl of the Orient," Hong Kong has been recognized
globally as a cosmopolitan city.
Hong
Kong is the first region in China that targeted the conference and exhibition
industry as a specific industry on its developing agenda. The city owns the first-rate
meeting and exhibition venues as well as world-class services. It never fails
to upgrade itself to the latest international standards in the industry.
In
the past few years, Hong Kong hosted more than 80 large-scale exhibitions annually,
with the attendance of about 20,000 exhibitors. Every year, more than 420 big
conferences are held in Hong Kong, with 37,000 participants coming from all over
the world. The city has been voted "the Best Convention Center in the World"
by the British magazine Meetings and Incentive Travel for years in row.
Hong
Kong has been giving the priority of developing service industry to the pollution-free
and efficient exhibition industry. To build up a first-class international facility,
Hong Kong has invested 1.6 billion Hong Kong dollars and 4.8 billon Hong Kong
dollars respectively in the first and the second phase of the Hong Kong Convention
and Exhibition Center. Its current exhibition area is total 248,000 square meters
and its for-lease areas 64,000 square meters, ranking second in Asia, following
the Tokyo International Convention Center.
Hong
Kong not only features top-rate facilities, but also earns high evaluation from
the global exhibition industry. Established in 1975, the International Union of
Fairs held its 67th Annual Congress in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition
Center this year. Most participants at the meeting sang high praise of the exhibition
venues and facilities in Hong Kong. Thanks to its advanced infrastructure in the
exhibition industry, Hong Kong will be able to consolidate its role as a gateway
to China market for foreign traders in four to five years after China's entry
to WTO.
